You don't need to be louder to be visible

If you’re in London today, how amazing is this sunshine ☀️

I’m about to head out for a little walk after writing this and I can’t wait.

I’ve been thinking a lot about visibility lately.

It’s something that comes up with almost every entrepreneur I work with - and if I’m honest, it used to bring up a LOT of resistance in me too.

Because visibility can feel uncomfortable. It can feel:

Exposing

Vulnerable

Unnatural

I remember when I started a tech company back in 2018 - I was a newbie entrepreneur and had zero clue how marketing worked.

In the hope of attracting clients, my co-founder and I decided to attend a wellness event which seemed promising. We geared up with our branded t-shirts on, and a bunch of promotional leaflets.

We spent hours anxiously walking around, too scared to actually approach anyone. I felt so much pressure to make it worthwhile, that eventually I forced us to go and stand by the event exit, in the rain, handing out leaflets to people who clearly weren’t interested. It felt pushy and forced. I hated it and it felt really misaligned.

We got zero clients.

However, I personally learned some really important lessons from that experience:

👉 I hate pushy, cold marketing.

And more importantly…

👉 I don’t need to do it that way.

After a lot of trial and error, I discovered far better and more aligned ways to grow and scale the various businesses I've had.

Since 2019, I've built my businesses through real conversations and genuine relationships.

I've never sent a cold DM to anyone. And I don't try to perform or be someone that I'm not.

I've learnt that I can just show up as myself, and to treat the person on the receiving end as a real, actual human.

This is what I want you to hear:

Visibility isn’t about becoming someone else.

Visibility is about amplifying who we already are, so the RIGHT people can find us.

Yes - it can feel uncomfortable (after all, we are expanding beyond our comfort zones)

But it should NOT feel inauthentic.

So if visibility has been feeling heavy or overwhelming, maybe the question isn’t:

'How do I do more?' (or 'how do I force myself to dance on TikTok?')

But:

'How do I do this in a way that actually feels like me?'

I'd love to hear from you. What are your thoughts on visibility? How have you been navigating it in your business?

Do hit reply and share your thoughts!

Wishing you a lovely rest of your week,

Marcela
